A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says he will be extremely surprised if his party wins the December general elections.
According to Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, given the level of apathy and internal bickering in the party, it will be difficult for the opposition party to win the polls.
“I will be surprised if the NPP wins the December elections; it will let me think twice about politics in Ghana” he said this in an exclusive interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen host, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong Tuesday.
He blamed the current leadership of the NPP led by acting Chairman, Freddie Blay for the growing apathy in the once “democratic party”.
“The problem facing the NPP is unity and without unity, we should forget about winning the December elections” he stressed.
Citing the suspension of Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong to buttress his point, Dr. Tamakloe said the party erred.
He described as “baseless” allegations that Mr. Afoko and Agyepong was working with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to thwart the presidential ambition of flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
“I know Afoko and Kwabena Agepong; they will never give party information to NDC.
The true enemies are still in the party not those they have suspended” he stated.
The outspoken politician maintained that, the only way out is for the suspension of the two elected leaders [Agyepong/Afoko] and others to be lifted for the party to forge ahead in unity.
Dr. Tamakloe called on Nana Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency take steps to overturn the suspension for a resounding victory in December.
“If Nana do things right, he will win but if he fails to put things right, he will be far from victory” he observed.
